So I realize this is a little bit weird, but I kind of LOVE dollhouses. I came across this old set of Tomy Dollhouse furniture while perusing KSL and I could not pass it up! I used to have some of the pieces from this set when I was a little girl, but alas, being the oldest of four girls means you never see them again after you grow up! So seeing this set took me back. They just don't make toys like this anymore... every teeny tiny drawer opens and there's even 4 tiny placemats and place settings with the smallest silverware you've ever seen in your life. Amazing.
Anyway, this woman on KSL had the entire set IN BOXES - 15 different boxes, each not missing a single teeny tiny piece. All purchased approximately 30 years ago. Sold me everything for a killer steal of $80 (where just the kitchen pieces sell for that out of the box on ebay). She sadly did not have the house, but that was okay with me since someday I want to build my own out of those wooden kits. However, I don't have $100+ to spend on a dollhouse kit so, for now, I decided I would make one with stuff I own - resolving not to purchase anything for it! So I grabbed one of the gazillion boxes we had leftover from moving and went to work!
painted the outside with craft paint I had lying around
used scrapbook stickers for the house number
and large thumbtacks for the doorknobs
(reinforced with hot glue)
covered the inside walls with wrapping paper
(glued on with a glue stick)
made "trim work" with white printer paper strips
hot-glued curtains made with leftover trim & fabric
my favorite part was cutting out pictures from
the walls of home decorating catalogs (like Pottery Barn)
to make art for my dollhouse walls.
aren't I clever? ;)
Max loves it and plays with it almost every day,
but I think I had even more fun making it!
